Hi, my name is Nick and I'm a
Chincoteague Pony.
I was born on May 25, 1994 and live on Cape
Cod, Massachusetts, USA. I moved up here on August 8, 1994 after I was purchased
at the " Pony Roundup," on July 27, 1994, which is held ever year by
the Chincoteague Fire Department, in the state of Virginia. My mother,
"Shore Thing," and my father, "Circuit Breaker," still live
on the island. This roundup is held every last Wednesday and Thursday that are
together in July. All the horses are rounded up and then they swim across the
channel between the island and mainland. I didn't get to swim because I was too
small, so I was taken over by boat. Only selected ponies are auctioned off and
the rest go back to the island for breeding. The money raised by this auction is
used to help support the Chincoteague Fire Department.
The Chincoteague Pony Drill Team, the only one of its kind in the world, was invited to perform at Equitana USA, in Louisville, Kentucky, in June of 1998. Click Here to get the full story.
If you would like to learn more about my breed see
my
Chincoteague Page. The
National
Chincoteague Pony Association
also has a very informative page.
A new web page called the "Chincoteague Pony Page,
Chincoteague Virginia" has recently been added to the web.
This is a very worthwhile page to visit. You'll get a lot of information about
the Chincoteague Pony as well as information all about Chincoteague, Virginia.
And if you're interested in attending a pony swim, this page can refer you to
all kinds of lodging.
There are other Web sites I like to browse are: Horse Country and

This picture was taken soon after Nick was purchased at the auction. He looks lost and afraid. |

We had a birthday party for Nick when he turned one year old. He's enjoying some of his birthday carrot cake. |

Here's a picture of Nick just taking a nap after breakfast on a cool spring morning. Who says that horses sleep standing up? As you can see, he's not spoiled at all. |

Gareth Stevens Publishing, a well known publisher of
children's books, has released a new series of books about horses and
ponies. One of the books is all about the Chincoteague Ponies in which you
will find Nick's picture in it with Don (owner), and Angela giving Nick a
big hug. Check your local school or local libraries for these books.
